The homeowners wanted to modernize their traditional Shaker Heights kitchen while preserving the character of their home. Their existing layout separated the kitchen from the dinette, lacked storage, and did not provide the functionality or gathering space they needed for everyday living and entertaining. They also wanted to improve the home’s side entry with a more practical mudroom. 

Hurst Design Build Remodel opened the kitchen to the adjacent dinette, creating a free-flowing layout centered around a spacious island with prep sink, microwave drawer, and seating. The sink was relocated beneath a new bank of windows to maximize natural light, while the former side entry was transformed into a highly functional mudroom with custom built-ins. Premium finishes, custom Omega cabinetry, and thoughtfully integrated storage created a kitchen that balances timeless design with modern convenience.

• Custom Omega Dynasty inset cabinetry with extensive pantry storage and built-in organizational accessories 

• Thermador appliance suite including refrigerator, refrigerator drawers, double wall ovens, gas rangetop, and dishwasher, paired with a Sharp microwave drawer and Zephyr ventilation hood 

• Elkay stainless steel sinks complemented by Brizo and Kohler plumbing fixtures 

• Adex USA brick-pattern backsplash highlighted by a full-height Taj Mahal quartzite feature behind the rangetop 

• Custom mudroom with built-in lockers, cubbies, message center, key rail, laundry chute, and additional storage 

• New windows that maximize natural light, complemented by hardwood flooring and a Sherwin Williams color palette throughout the kitchen and dinette 

• Recessed, under cabinet, and decorative lighting that provide layered illumination for both everyday tasks and entertaining 

The completed renovation blends the classic architecture of this Shaker Heights home with the functionality expected in a modern kitchen. Improved circulation, custom cabinetry, premium materials, and a hardworking mudroom create a bright, welcoming space designed for everyday family life and effortless entertaining.
