Hurst Design Build Remodel is honored to receive a 2026 PRO Remodeler of the Year (PROtY) Award in the Entire House $750,000–$1,000,000 category for our Avon Lake Whole Home Renovation. The PROtY Awards recognize excellence, innovation, and craftsmanship among the region’s leading remodeling professionals.

This Avon Lake project delivered a refined, top-to-bottom transformation defined by custom cabinetry, detailed millwork, and timeless materials throughout. An elegant traditional kitchen anchors the home with white cabinetry, a walnut island, marble surfaces, and sophisticated brass accents, while a luxurious master bath layers a marble shower, freestanding tub, and custom wood cabinetry. Built-in cabinetry, hardwood flooring, and new Pella windows tie the spaces together into a cohesive, high-end living environment.

The PROtY Awards recognize excellence, innovation, and craftsmanship among the region’s leading remodeling professionals.

This Tremont project reimagined the entire home with a bold, contemporary vision and seamless indoor-outdoor flow. A striking open-concept kitchen anchors the interior with charcoal cabinetry, a marble waterfall island, and an integrated coffee bar, while a dramatic master bath layers stone slab walls, hexagon tile, and a floating double vanity. Outside, cedar and panel siding, a modern glass entry, and an upper-level deck complete a cohesive, design-forward transformation from the curb in.

This Bay Village project transformed an underused lower level into a richly detailed, pub-inspired retreat built for gathering and entertaining. Custom woodwork, a coffered tin ceiling, and a full bar finished with striking green tile set the tone, while a dedicated billiards area, home theater, and custom cabinetry create distinct spaces for everything from game night to relaxing with friends.

This Gates Mills project reimagined an underused sunroom into a warm, open-concept family room designed for both everyday living and entertaining. A coffered ceiling, custom white built-in cabinetry, and a fireplace wall framed with architectural millwork anchor the space, while a wet bar, dedicated entertainment wall, rich hardwood floors, and a sunlit window seat bring comfort, function, and character to the new room.

2026 Regional NARI CotY Award – Entire House 500k – 750k

The clients loved their Tremont location—the walkable neighborhood, favorite restaurants, and proximity to Downtown Cleveland—but the dated interior and exterior of their home didn’t match the vibrant lifestyle they envisioned. Their goal was to create a modern, open floor plan that would maximize their stunning backyard and city views. We reimagined the entire home by relocating the centrally located powder room, which created a dramatically expanded kitchen with a large island and custom banquette. The design aesthetic incorporated natural white oak wide-plank flooring and accent walls, marble-look quartz countertops, modern slab-style cabinetry, and matte-black fixtures throughout, creating a sophisticated, contemporary ambiance. This transformation turned a traditional home into a stunning modern retreat, perfectly suited for entertaining and everyday living with breathtaking views of Downtown Cleveland. 2023 NARI CotY Award – First Place Basement

The clients were ready to transform their basement into a space their family can enjoy through the years. Their goal was to utilize the entire basement and create a fun and inviting space. We created dedicated zones for their difference hobbies including a golf simulator, movie theater, a large wet bar, cigar room and hockey room. The design aesthetic incorporated walnut accents, natural stone, slate-look flooring, and bronze/copper fixtures, creating an earthy and rugged ambiance that seamlessly blended comfort with style. 2023 NARI CotY Award – First Place Interior

After spending 21 years in their cherished home, it was time for an upgrade to the kitchen, laundry, and mudrooms. They envisioned a refreshed space with transitional finishes that would seamlessly blend with the home’s traditional details. By relocating the kitchen window to the rear of the house, they gained space for a large sink and additional surrounding countertops. Removing the peninsula and existing pantry opened up the area for a spacious, rectangular center island, perfect for accommodating 2-3 stools. This new layout allowed the cooktop to be moved off the island, making room for a prominent 48” double oven range with a custom hood, which now serves as a stunning centerpiece in the kitchen. NARI Cleveland Contractor of the Year

NARI of Greater Cleveland awards the prestigious Contractor of the Year (CotY) award each year to members who have demonstrated outstanding work through their remodeling projects. Entries are judged anonymously using criteria like aesthetic appeal, functionality and craftsmanship.

2023 NARI CotY Award – First Place Kitchen

Our clients tasked us with designing a kitchen that would harmonize with their 1928 Tudor home, offering improved flow and ample space for hosting their large family. The existing kitchen had numerous issues that posed significant challenges for the clients. Our new layout involved a complete overhaul, relocating everything except the kitchen sink.

A spacious island, strategically placed away from the entry door, now accommodates seating for eight. We relocated the range to an exterior wall and added a custom copper hood, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics. Additionally, we created a dedicated space for coats and shoes, and raised the hearth room floor to match the kitchen level, making the entire area feel more expansive. 2023 NARI CotY Award – Second Place Kitchen

Our client sought to blend traditional elements with modern aesthetics, enhancing their home’s existing features while infusing a renewed sense of openness and organization. We reimagined the layout to create a more expansive and inviting atmosphere. We introduced sleek finishes, clean lines, and contemporary fixtures. We tied these updates into the home’s overall style by adding a custom coffered ceiling with decorative crown and custom stacked base molding. Ample storage options were implemented to ensure a clutter-free and seamlessly organized space.

The new layout provided the floor space needed for a large island and a peninsula between the kitchen and dining area, offering extensive counter space for cooking and entertaining, along with additional seating. This collaborative effort has resulted in a home that balances tradition with modernity, fulfilling the client’s vision and creating a space that truly reflects their unique style and lifestyle. 2022 NARI CotY Award – First Place Addition

The client wanted to replace a dated sun porch with a spacious, light-filled great room that brings the outdoors in. We created an addition that was both spacious and cozy with beautiful architectural features like transom windows. vaulted shiplap ceilings, wood beams. fireplace. and custom-built-ins. The space meets the clients’ wish for plenty of natural light without looking like a porch. While the new great room can be used year-round and includes a new open-air covered porch area and new concrete patio with stone walls, both are great for entertaining and enjoying beautiful views of the yard. 2022 NARI CotY Award – First Place Bathroom

As part of a whole house remodel, the client wanted to put a special focus on their primary bath. The existing bathroom was very dated with pine cabinets, large square tile flooring, and small shower. By reconfiguring the bathroom, walk-in closet, and laundry room floor plan we were able to create a stylish and functional space complete with large glass and tile shower and freestanding tub. The new bathroom features beautiful high-end fixtures and luxuries including heated tile flooring. This 3800 square foot basement underwent a major transformation. The clients wanted a stylish place to serve many functions including hosting overnight guests and larger gatherings. The space features a large theater style space, an intimate wine room that shuts out the stresses of the day, a custom bar area big enough for a crowd, a separate yoga and fitness room. a well-appointed second kitchen. and an expansive dining room. This young and social family was looking for a way to extend their outdoor living and entertaining space They wanted to make the mast of their backyard to enjoy time with family and friends. They were looking to add a spacious covered patio with lots of seating to host a large crowd. The design and construction of the outdoor space transformed a large empty backyard into an attractive and comfortable outdoor living space with custom bar, and well-appointed outdoor family room with board and batten accents adding character, heaters to extend the season, and composite decking for easy maintenance. 2022 NARI CotY Award – 2nd Place Kitchen

The client’s lakefront home was showing its age, especially in the small basic kitchen. The client was looking for a remodeled kitchen that would expand the space and make it more functional and attractive. With the lower ceiling and lack of windows they also wanted to brighten up the space. Without adding an addition, we added new windows, high end finishes, more open wall space, and extended cabinetry into the adjacent sitting room and great room to make the kitchen look and feel dramatically larger and more dynamic with contrasting finishes and feature elements that make the stylish transformation complete.
