Kitchens

The homeowners loved the architectural significance of their 1956 mid-century modern home, originally designed by renowned architect George Burrows, but nearly every room remained untouched since it was built. They wanted to preserve the home’s iconic mid-century character while creating a kitchen that functioned for modern living, offered better storage, and connected more naturally with the surrounding living spaces.

Hurst Design Build Remodel carefully reimagined the kitchen while honoring the home’s original architecture. Rather than forcing a contemporary design into the space, the team embraced its mid-century roots by selecting clean lines, natural materials, and a restrained color palette. The layout was redesigned to improve functionality and flow while preserving the home’s distinctive architectural features, resulting in a kitchen that feels as though it has always belonged in the home.

• Custom walnut cabinetry with integrated storage designed to complement the home’s original mid-century architecture

• Large center island that expands workspace and provides casual seating

• Thermador refrigerator and freezer paired with a KitchenAid dishwasher and trash compactor, and a Sharp built-in microwave

• Blanco sink integrated into the streamlined kitchen design

• Walker Zanger tile backsplash that adds texture while maintaining the home’s clean, modern aesthetic

• Baird Brothers hardwood flooring and Pella windows that enhance the warmth and natural light throughout the space

• Minimalist detailing and carefully selected finishes that reinforce the home’s authentic mid-century character

The completed kitchen celebrates the home’s mid-century heritage while delivering the functionality today’s homeowners expect. Thoughtfully integrated appliances, custom cabinetry, and authentic material selections create a space that feels true to George Burrows’ original design while providing the storage, efficiency, and comfort needed for modern everyday living.
