Project Summary: The homeowners of this Westlake, Ohio kitchen wanted to open up the space and make it much more functional for day to day living and for entertaining friends and family. The home features traditional elements that the client appreciated but they were also open to a more modern and dramatic design that could blend with the home's original style. The result is a timeless kitchen with beautiful coffered ceilings, marble throughout, dramatic design and improved functionality. 

Kitchen Before: The original kitchen felt closed in with a partition wall and a long peninsula separating the dining area from the kitchen work spaces which created bad traffic flow. Although the cabinets were white, the space seemed dark and closed off. All of the appliances, counters and cabinets were in need of an update, and the large pantry closet, which featured low end wire shelving, was not optimal for kitchen organization. 

Kitchen After: The remodeled kitchen features dramatic coffered ceilings and marble throughout. The beautiful design is in balance with the dramatically improved functionality. Large pantry cabinets now flank the refrigerator and replaced the old wire shelved pantry. The waterfall marble counters and backsplash add drama to the beautiful space. One of the most striking elements is the coffered ceiling which took meticulous planning and construction. To ensure the many layers and details were perfectly in line, the team started at the center point of the new range and custom hood. We removed the wall separating the kitchen from the dining area and removed the original peninsula for dramatically improved traffic flow, site lines, and functionality.

The Details: With views of the kitchen from the living room we elected to showcase the beauty of the stone countertops with waterfall sides. Your eye is drawn from the island to the black hood and matching stone backsplash creating an elegant look. 

The marble extends up the backsplash from countertop to ceiling on the range wall, and on all the walls under the new cabinetry. The polished finish reflects the lighting and makes the kitchen feel light and bright.  

As you can see in the photos the new whiter, brighter lighting selections above the island, under cabinets, and in the ceilings give the a fresh, clean and modern feel.

Because the clients like to entertain, the new design includes an upgraded appliance package complete with a 48” professional gas range, an ice maker and a dual temperature beverage refrigerator in the island.  

The custom range hood has a stark black finish to create a dramatic contrast against the stone.

Two full size pantry cabinets now flank the large stainless refigerator eliminating the wire shelved panty for improved organization and style.
