Project Summary:
The client inherited her childhood home in Moreland Hills which her parents had built in 1955. Starting with the kitchen, the client was looking for an updated look that remained true to the home’s character and preserved its ‘great bones.’
Our Challenge:
The challenge was to take a dated kitchen, with materials such as knotty pine cabinets, yellow laminate countertops, faux brick vinyl floors, and an awkward layout, and create a beautiful, functional kitchen that was great for entertaining.
Our Solution:
With a focus on timeless design and smart functionality, the beautiful new kitchen provided dramatically improved style and functionality. The new kitchen featured an expanded opening to the great room with a new bar-top pass-through which can be used for serving food or bar height seating. The focal point of the kitchen is a new island large enough for food prep and casual gatherings. The change to a pocket door that leads to the living room created enough space for the refrigerator, oven, microwave, and even a pantry cabinet in what was once an underutilized space.
The Results:
The remodeled kitchen blended classic design with all of the latest conveniences. The client was so pleased she immediately asked Hurst to get started on the home’s master bath. Hurst’s remodeling work on both the kitchen and master bath were selected by NARI for their prestigious Contractor of the Year Awards.
The Review:
"I have received many rave reviews about both the kitchen and master bath. They are not only functional, but beautiful and I think update the home perfectly.
Hurst provides a site on-line to view all the aspects of your project such as a calendar showing what will be done each day and who will be on site. I also had to go on-line to approve all my selections which helped to avoid any misunderstandings. Both projects were completed on time and with minimal adjustments to the budget. As with any project, some unexpected items were found that required additional work none added much to the overall budget. We also had weekly meetings to go over the progress of the project and to discuss any concerns. All the various people working on the projects were very nice and professional and kept my house as neat as was possible."
All in all I had a very positive experience working with Hurst Design Build and would use them again.
