Hurst Design-Build Remodeling Named Two-Time NARI 2013 Regional Contractor of the Year;
Cleveland, OH, February 21, 2013—The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) named Hurst Design-Build Remodeling, a Cleveland-based full service remodeling firm, 2013 East Central Regional Contractor of the Year (CotY) in two categories of its annual awards competition: Residential Kitchen $80,001 to $120,000 and Residential Addition $100,000 to $250,000.
“This is the first time we’ve even entered a national competition, so naturally we were thrilled to learn that we won not one, but two categories in our region, ” said Pat Hurst, Owner and Project Consultant. “We are incredibly proud of our team here at Hurst.”
Hurst’s award-winning kitchen was an extensive remodel that nearly doubled the size of the homeowners’ original kitchen. The new design was centered around a custom built 10-foot long island made of reclaimed barn wood from north central Ohio, while also incorporating modern materials like concrete counter tops and unusual wavy tile backsplashes.
The award-winning addition was noteworthy because it not only added a spacious and beautiful master suite for the home owners, but because it was also specifically designed to complement a previous addition to the home, echoing its roof lines and windows, and even incorporated the same dark cherry trim seen throughout the home on the interior moldings. To be considered for a CotY Award, a company must be a NARI member in good standing. An impartial panel of judges (experts within the remodeling industry and associated fields) selected winners based on each entrant’s binders, which include “before and after” photography and project descriptions. Judging focused on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty and entry presentation.
The announcement of the two awards came at a great time for Hurst Design-Build Remodeling, which is entering its second year as a sponsor of the annual Blossom Time Festival. Even though the event is months away, Hurst is gearing up for the launch of their first Blossom Time Ugliest Bathroom Contest: contestants can submit a photo of their ugly bathroom beginning February 21 for a chance to win a $15,000 bathroom remodel. The entry with the most votes as of May 25, 2013 will be announced as the winner in the big tent at Blossom Time on Sunday, May 26 at 6:00 pm.
“Is Your Bathroom Ugly??!?” Is the tagline of the contest, and Pat Hurst hopes the humor of the contest as well as the generous grand prize will catch people’s attention. “We want people to have fun with this contest—we’re looking forward to seeing some great pictures while giving more folks on the east side of Cleveland a chance to get to know Hurst. This is a fun way for someone to win a bathroom remodel from an award-winning firm!”
Hurst, which is based in Middleburg Heights, does work all around the Cleveland area and has had a strong presence in the western suburbs of Cleveland since its founding in 1997. The company has partnered with the Chagrin Valley Jaycees in its sponsorship of Blossom Time to continue its growth in the eastern suburbs—the team recently completed some beautiful projects in Pepper Pike, Shaker Heights and Bainbridge. The Shaker Heights project is up for a local CotY award this year.
