About This Project

The Homeowner’s Challenge

The homeowners loved the timeless character and Lake Erie views that their 1928 Tudor home offered, but the kitchen no longer fit their way of living. The cramped layout, limited storage, and poor traffic flow made cooking and entertaining their large family a challenge. Their goal was to create a kitchen that respected the home’s historic architecture while providing the openness and functionality of a modern living space.

Hurst’s Approach

Hurst Design Build Remodel completely reimagined the kitchen and adjoining hearth room while preserving the home’s original character. The team redesigned the floor plan, relocating key elements to improve circulation and maximize storage. By raising the hearth room floor to match the kitchen and incorporating custom architectural details throughout, the two spaces now function as one cohesive gathering area that feels original to the home.

Key Design Features

  • Expansive center island with seating for eight
  • Custom copper range hood serving as the kitchen’s focal point
  • Professional-grade appliance package designed for cooking and entertaining
  • Raised hearth room floor for a seamless transition between spaces
  • Custom storage solutions, including a dedicated drop zone for coats and shoes
  • Rich wood cabinetry, natural stone countertops, and finishes that complement the home’s Tudor architecture

Outcome

The renovated kitchen blends the charm and craftsmanship of the original 1928 home with the functionality today’s homeowners expect. The result is an award-winning space that accommodates everyday living, large family gatherings, and entertaining while remaining true to the home’s historic character.
