About This Project
The Homeowner's Challenge
The homeowners wanted to replace their dated kitchen with a brighter, more open space that offered better storage, improved seating, and a stronger connection to the surrounding first-floor living areas. The existing soffits, flooring, and partial wall near the stairs made the kitchen feel enclosed, while the layout no longer supported the way the family cooked, gathered, and entertained.
Hurst's Approach
Hurst Design Build Remodel removed the soffits and reworked the wall and stair framing to give the kitchen a more open appearance. The redesigned layout centers on a large island with generous seating and workspace, supported by custom cabinetry and a mix of durable quartz surfaces. New flooring was carried throughout the first floor and onto the stair treads, creating a consistent flow between the kitchen and adjoining rooms. Updates to the butler’s pantry, sunroom cabinetry, fireplace, and interior trim extended the refreshed design beyond the kitchen.
